Police are searching for the driver of a car which was seen travelling at speeds of up to 160mph in South Lanarkshire.

The grey Seat Leon was signalled to stop by officers on Bothwell Road in Hamilton around 8.20pm on April 30.

The driver failed to stop but instead drove off at excessive speed along Bothwell Road, Bellshill Road, on to the M74 northbound and then on to the slip road at Daldowie Cemetery where the car was found abandoned.

Police believe the driver nearly crashed into a HGV near to the slip road.

Anyone who witnessed the car or have any dashcam footage of the incident is being asked to get in touch with police.

Constable Shannon Watt, Roads Policing Unit, Lanarkshire, said: “The driver sped off and out of sight of officers driving at speeds of between 130mph and 160mph.

“Not only was he a danger to himself but to others on the road.

“From our investigation, we believe the car nearly collided with a heavy goods vehicle near the slip road to Daldowie Cemetery. We’d appeal to the driver of the lorry to get in touch with police and provide any dash-cam footage they may have.

“We’d been keen to obtain dash-cam video from any car that was on the road between 8.20pm and 8.40pm or indeed, any other information that may assist our investigation.”
