More than 900 illegal “supersized” vapes have been seized from shops in North Lanarkshire this week.
Police and trading standards teams worked together to recover the “non-compliant” vapes from various premises in Airdrie, the council said.
The vapes, which have 10ml and 15ml tanks, exceed the legal limit of 2ml, and are illegal to sell as they are not correctly registered.
A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council said: “Our Trading Standards Team and Police Scotland seized over 900 non-compliant vapes from premises in Airdrie this week.
“The supersized vapes have 10ml and 15ml tanks which exceed the 2ml legal limit and, as they’re not correctly registered, are illegal to sell.”
Inspector Gavin Tuohy said: “This was an intelligence led joint operation with Trading Standards which saw a considerable amount of illegal vapes being recovered from premises in Airdrie this week.
“If you have information on the illegal sale of vape products or tobacco you can report this to Police Scotland on 101, to your local authority Trading Standards Department, or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
