Hundreds in Falkirk face third day without power after tree crushes substation during Storm Isha Falkirk Council

Hundreds of homes are without power for a third day after a tree fell and crushed a substation in Falkirk during Storm Isha.

On Tuesday, around 1,800 households will have their electricity disrupted until 4pm as supplier GTC carries out repairs.

The substation on Bellsdyke Road, in Kinnaird, was struck by the tree on Sunday, leaving people in the FK5 area of Larbert without supplies.

To safely remove the tree and assess the damage, GTC needs to isolate supplies to the local area, Falkirk Council has said.

Isolation of supplies began at 10am and supplies are expected to be restored by 4pm.

The council said additional support is being provided to vulnerable individuals in the community.

Schools have also been affected and information was communicated to guardians on Monday night and Tuesday morning.

“We have set up a rest centre to support the ongoing disruption caused by a power outage in the Kinnaird area of Larbert” a council spokesperson said.

“The rest centre is located at Tryst Community Education Centre, Park Drive, Stenhousemuir, Larbert, FK5 3BB and will provide visitors with hot beverages and a place to charge mobile devices.

“The energy network provider will notify households by text, as well as by updating the live incident on their website when power is switched off.”
