Two houses in Motherwell were set on fire after being hit by a stray firework on Bonfire Night.

The fire service was called to the homes in Corrie Drive just before 8pm on Thursday with crews still at the scene on Friday morning.

Local MSP Clare Adamson, who represents Motherwell and Wishaw, said she was “devastated” for those affected by the fire.

She tweeted: “Devastated for the families affected by fire at homes in Motherwell caused by firework – enough is enough – the human cost of misuse too high we need further regulation.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said it took more than 1100 calls from members of the public on bonfire nighT.

Crews were attacked as they attended a number on incidents.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “We were alerted at 7.56pm on Thursday to reports of a fire within a semi-detached, two-storey house in Corrie Road, Motherwell.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised four fire engines to the scene.”
