A Scottish holidaymaker who went into a coma after falling from a balcony in Croatia has woken up a week later.
Jennifer Walsh, from Edinburgh, was on vacation when her family got a call on October 2 to tell them she had a bleed on her brain, two fractures to her skull, a broken collarbone, a punctured lung, a fractured wrist and all her left ribs broken.
The 22-year-old’s “devastated” family said she instantly fell into a coma and received life-saving brain surgery in hospital.
Jennifer’s parents flew out to Croatia the next morning to be by her side.
A fundraiser set up by her sister has raised more than £37,000 to help cover the costs of the “horrifying” incident.
On Friday, Jennifer came out of her coma and was breathing on her own.
The family said she had responded to her parents with little movements.
An update on the fundraiser said: “The doctors are happy with her improvements but insist that it is baby steps day by day. The recovery will be slow but this is an amazing start already.
“Please keep my sister in your prayers and continue to send your love her way. Again, thank you all so much.”
