HMP Barlinnie prisoners were left without running water overnight.
The Glasgow prison said the issue on its E-hall wing was identified at around 4pm on Thursday.
They contacted Scottish Water, who carried out work nearby. However, the fix was only partial, and some cells continued to experience no running water in toilets and taps overnight.
Scottish Water completed further work on Friday, and the water supply is now running again.
A spokesperson for Barlinnie said that the prison’s water tanks take time to refill, so shower access is being managed while supplies return to normal.
Bottled water has been offered to all affected individuals since the prison opened on Friday.
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson said: “A water supply issue affecting some people in our care at HMP Barlinnie has now been fixed by Scottish Water, who are assisting in restoring levels to normal.
“Those individuals affected have been offered bottled water.”
Scottish Water has been contacted for comment.
