A historic Scots estate dating back to the 19th century has been destroyed following a fire.

Firefighters attended a blaze at the Gartshore Estate near Kirkintilloch after being alerted just before 10pm on Saturday night.

Six appliances were despatched and the fire was brought under control. No injuries were reported.

“Operations control immediately mobilised six fire engines to the location and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Gartshore is an estate landscape that retains its 19th-century layout as well as many estate buildings, considerable woodland belts and some areas of grazed parkland.

The former stables is now the main residence, divided into several apartments. The walled garden retains two gateways, one of which is pedimented with the dates 1681 and 1889 on either side of it.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to assist Scottish Fire and Rescue Service with regard to road closures following a fire at Gartshore Estate, Kirkintilloch around 10.10pm on Saturday, 15 January, 2022.”
