High-value car stolen in 'targeted' keyless theft from driveway

A grey Range Rover Sport was stolen from a property on Coldstream Drive around 10.30pm on March 29.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a high-value car was stolen from the driveway of a property in Rutherglen.

The grey Range Rover Sport was stolen from a property on Coldstream Drive around 10.30pm on March 29 by a person wearing dark clothing.

Detectives believe the person responsible used keyless theft to gain access to the vehicle and have issued advice to car owners.

Constable Martin Barnsley, Rutherglen Police Station, said: “We have managed to get CCTV from the area and around 10.30pm on Friday night, a person wearing dark clothing is seen near the car, then getting in and driving off.

“The owner of the car still has the keys and the house was not broken into.

“We believe the vehicle was deliberately targeted and that the thief used what is known as relay theft where the signal from the true key is by-passed and unauthorised access gained.

“We would appeal to anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area, or who may have any information on the whereabouts of the vehicle which has a SE66 prefix to contact police.”

Information can be passed to officers via 101 quoting incident number 0773 of Saturday, March 30 2024. Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Car security advice:

  • When you are at home, keep your car keys or fobs away from the car, don’t leave them near your doors or windows.
  • Buy a signal blocking pouch, this can block the transmission of the signal from the car key. You can buy these online.
  • Using a steering lock can be an effective way of ensuring that your vehicle is not stolen, it can be a useful deterrent.
  • If you have a garage, use it to secure vehicle.
  • Park in the driveway if you have one.
