A Glasgow secondary school’s prom has been cancelled due to “unacceptable behaviour” from students.
Police were called to Rosshall Academy, on Crookston Road, after pupils allegedly “broke into” the school and set off glitter and smoke bombs in a communal area, whilst also vandalising doors and windows at around 10.30am on Friday, April 19.
In footage circulating on social media, flares and small fireworks also appear to have been let off in the school building.
It is understood police were notified that the fire alarm had been set off during the incident.
Glasgow City Council condemned the incident, branding the vandalism “totally unacceptable” and said the actions of pupils “compromised the health and safety of students and staff”.
The council confirmed the school “had no other option” but to now postpone the annual S6 leavers prom.
A spokesperson for Glasgow City Council said: “Unfortunately, due to the unacceptable behaviour of some pupils, the school has been left with no other option but to postpone the annual S6 prom.
“We understand this is disappointing for many young people, however, the school is now looking to hold an alternative celebratory event at a later date.
“These acts of vandalism are totally unacceptable and have caused serious damage to school property, as well as having compromised the health and safety of students and staff.
“The incident has been reported to the police to be investigated and anyone with any information should contact the police.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On around 10.45am on Friday, April 19, 2024, we received a report of a disturbance within a premises on Crookston Road, Glasgow.
“There are no reported injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.”
