Helicopter assists hillwalkers stranded on mountain on Isle of Arran

A helicopter was launched as part of a mission to rescue two hillwalkers who became stranded on a mountain on the Isle of Arran.

Arran Mountain Rescue Team were called to Goatfell on Friday to help the walkers who had become disoriented while descending from the summit of the mountain.

Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 199 assisted the effort, helping to lift some team members onto Glenshant Hill.

However, the helicopter could not get close to the casualties due to challenging weather conditions.

The two walkers were located on steep ground above Glen Rosa and were assisted down into the glen, where they were transferred to waiting Argo Cats for evacuation.

A spokesperson for Arran Mountain Rescue Team said: “Realising they were in difficulty, they did exactly the right thing and called for assistance.

“We would like to thank the crew of Rescue 199 for their assistance.”
