The “heartbroken” family of a Scottish dad who died in Colombia have launched a bid to repatriate him.

Ross Macquarrie died on November 11 while on a trip to the South American country.

The 38-year-old from Ayrshire, who has a three-year-old daughter, has been described as “a loving father, partner, son, and friend”.

His family are aiming to raise funds to bring his body home, which they say has been “complicated and incredibly costly”.

A GoFundMe has been set up to raise £1,000.

A post read: “We, Lindsay and Aga and his parents, Neil and Gayle, who he was a big part of our lives, are working together to bring him home so his family, especially little Blake, can say their proper goodbyes.

“All funds raised will go directly towards the repatriation costs, legal requirements in Colombia, and giving Ross the respectful farewell he deserves.

“Any donation, no matter the size, will help us bring Ross home where he belongs and give his daughter and family the chance for closure.

“Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting us through this unimaginable time.”

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Colombia and are in contact with the local authorities.”
