Celtic player Leigh Griffiths has been cleared of any criminality regarding a claim he sent inappropriate messages to a 15-year-old.
The 30-year-old Scotland international had been accused of contacting the girl on Instagram and was sent home from Celtic’s pre-season training base in Wales as a result.
A police investigation was launched after a series of tweets were posted online, but officers now say there was no criminal offence committed.
A spokesperson for the force said: “In relation to recent reporting regarding alleged inappropriate communications online, a full assessment has been carried out and it’s been established there is no criminality.”
Griffiths had just recently signed a new one-year-deal at Celtic before the accusations came to light.
