Peterhead Football Club has said it will issue a lifetime ban to a supporter who racially abused a player of an opposing team.
Peterhead were playing in a Scottish Cup tie at Balmoor Stadium on Saturday when racist behaviour was allegedly directed at Greenock Morton forward Tomi Adeloye.
The abuse was said to have been witnessed by a club official.
Peterhead FC said it was “profoundly disappointed” by the incident, and steps were already being taken to identify the person responsible.
In a statement released on Sunday, the club said: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place at Balmoor Stadium or at any football venue.
“The impact incidents like this can have on individuals, on our club’s reputation, and on the wider community cannot be understated. This conduct does not reflect the values of Peterhead FC or our supporters.
“We are fully committed to taking firm action. Steps are already underway to identify the person responsible, and once confirmed, they will receive a lifetime ban from attending any fixtures at our ground.
“Let there be no doubt: the actions of a single individual will not define Peterhead Football Club.”
Greenock Morton said it strongly condemns any form of racist abuse.
A spokesperson added: “There is no place for racism in football or in society, and we maintain a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination. We are committed to working with Peterhead, who we thank for their cooperation, the relevant authorities, and any other appropriate bodies to investigate the matter.
“We will support the strongest possible action against those responsible. We stand with you, Tomi.”
Police Scotland said it had not received a report of the incident.
