After over 50 years in business, the iconic Glasgow shop Greaves Sports is set to close.
Greaves is one of the oldest independent sporting shops in the UK, dating back to the 1930s.
Amongst all the sporting stars that have visited over the years, some of their most famous customers include Frank Sinatra and, in more recent times, Samuel L Jackson and Eminem.
The family-owned business has now been sold to Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group.
It’s understood that the shop will cease trading on January 4.
Greaves started life as the Clydesdale Rubber Company in the 1930s, selling products such as Wellington boots and sheepskin coats.
In the 1950s, brothers Jim and Bill Greaves oversaw a change in direction for the business as they took over rival company Lumley’s.
They rebranded as Greaves Sports in 1967.
STV NewsThe business was acquired by Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group in July 2026, but remained open and continued to operate under the Greaves brand in-store and online.
Frasers has been approached for comment, and it’s not clear what they plan to do with the store, or whether they’ll keep the Greaves name.
