A fault on the Glen Sannox has resulted in services being disrupted days after the millions overbudget ferry set sail on its maiden voyage.
CalMac reported this morning that a fault with the vessel’s bow door would mean services are “liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice.”
The ferry operator has confirmed the issue has since been resolved but that services will now operate at a “slight delay” for the remainder of the day.
The 8.40am sailing from Brodick on Arran to Troon, North Ayrshire, departed an hour late. The 10:50am sailing from Troon also set sail 35 minutes late at 11.25am.
Other services potentially affected include the Brodick sailings at 1pm and 5.20pm and sailings from Troon at 3.10pm and 7.30pm.
CalMac has urged customers to “check in as normal” regarding their journeys.
A spokesperson said: “This morning the first sailing of the MV Glen Sannox was delayed due to a blown fuse which affected the bow doors. This was quickly resolved and the vessel has been making up time, with her timetable expected to return to normal by the end of the day.
“This sort of technical issue is a routine occurrence on any vessel and is usually quickly dealt with by the crew, as it has been today.”
It comes after the ferry finally entered official service on Monday morning six years late.
The Glen Sannox departed from Troon in South Ayrshire at approximately 6.52am to Brodick.
The vessel transported its first paying passengers on Sunday when it carried out a test run, taking over a scheduled return journey from the catamaran MV Alfred.
On Sunday, CalMac confirmed that two outstanding issues on the vessel had been resolved ahead of Monday’s official launch.
The sewage system has now been “fully optimised” for passenger travel, while a replacement valve on the starboard mezz deck was fitted.
The original contract price for both Glen Sannox and sister ship Glen Rosa was £97m, but the total costs are well in excess of £400m.
