Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass said he was satisfied with his side’s efforts as they reached the Scottish Cup fifth round with the minimum of fuss.

Goals from Ryan Hedges and Christian Ramirez put the Dons 2-0 ahead against Edinburgh City before half-time and Lewis Ferguson scored an injury-time header to seal a 3-0 win.

Glass admitted he would have liked to have seen his players rack up more goals against their League 2 opposition after creating numerous chances and hitting the woodwork on more than one occasion. He could be content with the “professional” performance they put in but that the win could have been even more comfortable.

He said: “We had a lot of opportunities where we should be hitting the target or should be hitting it harder, finding the corners a little bit better, but it’s a lesson because it could get edgy if they chuck one in your box and score a goal.

“The shot they had was dangerous and it’s very easy to become 2-1 and then you’re starting to feel the stadium changing.

“It should have been out of sight earlier, it wasn’t, but it was a professional job.”

The manager had resisted the temptation to make changes against lower league opposition and named the same starting side that drew 1-1 with Rangers.

“The players make your mind up with that sort of thing, when they put in performances like they did against Rangers,” he said. “It’s important that they get the rewards and important they keep performing, like they did today.

“We’ve got another decision to make ahead of St Mirren [on Tuesday].”

Edinburgh City boss Gary Naysmith had no complaints about the outcome and said that the quality of the opposition was the difference.

“It was a difficult game for us,” Naysmith said. “I didn’t expect them to play the starting XI that face Rangers, if I’m honest.

“When you see that team – and I thought Aberdeen were the better team in midweek – you have a little bit of fear.

“I hate getting beat. I thought it was going to be an uncomfortable afternoon but the players in the main held their own and 3-0 was probably a fair reflection.”
