Both of Glasgow’s Winter Wonderlands have been forced to shut as Storm Bram brings strong winds and heavy rain across the city.

Organisers confirmed that the festive attractions at Glasgow Green and St Enoch Square will close from noon until midnight on Tuesday, December 9, citing public safety concerns. Organisers said online bookings will be refunded.

The shutdown comes partway through the market’s winter run, which began on November 6 and is scheduled to continue until January 4.

This year’s festivities include Santa’s Grotto, live theatre, and a spread of independent food vendors, craft stalls and gifts from local makers. There are also fairground rides, including a towering observation wheel.

Organisers say they expect the attractions to reopen once conditions improve.

Weather warnings started coming into force at 6am on Tuesday. Two yellow wind warnings are in place from 12pm covering the whole of Scotland apart from Shetland.

It comes as Storm Bram brings travel disruption to Scotland with wind gusts of up to 90mph forecast.

A statement from the organisers read: “Due to expected adverse weather conditions and in the interest of public safety, organisers have decided to close both Winter Wonderlands at Glasgow Green and St Enoch Square on Tuesday, December 9 from 12.00pm – 12.00am.

“Online bookings will be refunded.”
