Glasgow’s Voi bike hire scheme has surpassed two million hires in less than a year.
Nextbike was replaced by the Swedish firm Voi in November 2025, and more than 119,000 people have used the scheme since it opened, travelling a combined 6.3 million kilometres.
August was the busiest month so far, with 333,015 hires, while a new daily record of 13,332 was set in late September. The average journey is 3.1 kilometres and takes 16 minutes.
Usage is now 780% higher than under the previous operator.
The scheme has more than 260 hire stations across the city, with around 900 electric bikes available each day.
Councillor Angus Millar, city convener for transport and climate, called it a “remarkable milestone”.
He said: “Two million hires in less than a year is a remarkable milestone and shows that cycle hire is becoming an increasingly important part of everyday travel in Glasgow.
“As we build safe, protected active travel infrastructure and extend initiatives such as the cycle hire scheme, more and more Glaswegians are choosing the bike to get about Glasgow.
“Whether travelling to work, connecting with public transport, visiting local businesses or simply travelling across the city, the bikes are giving people more choice in how they make everyday journeys – offering a practical and sustainable option that is evidently becoming part of many people’s daily routines.”
Harry Foskin, senior public policy manager at Voi Technology, said the second million hires had been reached in just three months.
He said: “Two million hires in less than a year is a brilliant milestone for Glasgow. The second million came in just three months, which really shows how quickly people have made e-bikes part of how they get around the city.
“A big thank you to everyone who’s ridden with us, and to Glasgow City Council for being such a great partner. We’re excited to keep growing the scheme together.”
