A stretch of the Trongate in Glasgow has been forced to close due to reports of subsidence, according to Glasgow City Council.

Drivers are being warned to expect delays as the council carries out urgent investigation works following reports of subsidence on the westbound carriageway.

The westbound closure affects Trongate between Albion Street and the Glassford Street/Stockwell Street junction.

The council says the closure will be in place until further notice, with drivers diverted via Albion Street, Ingram Street, Glassford Street.

It is currently unknown how extensive the subsidence is.

A council traffic bulletin states: “Due to subsidence and urgent carriageway investigation works, Trongate is closed westbound between Albion Street and Glassford Street/Stockwell Street.

“The closure will remain in place from now until further notice.

“Drivers are advised to expect potential delays and allow extra time for their journeys.”
