Backdrops said to be from the botched Willy Wonka experience in Glasgow are to be auctioned off in aid of those suffering in Gaza.
Monorail Music, an independent record store in Glasgow, has launched the auction on eBay of sweet themed backdrops and the “Time Tunnel” – home to the infamous Unknown.
Willy’s Chocolate Experience, organised by immersive events company House of Illuminati, promised ticket goers an “enchanting” day out where “dreams come to life”.
The store has claimed the items, that were supposed to transport parents and children to a land of pure imagination, were found dumped in a bin outside the studio where the disastrous event was staged.
The ill-fated “immersive experience” was cancelled hours after opening due to frustration from visitors who branded it a “farce” and said their children were left upset by the quality of the attraction which had been advertised using AI-generated imagery.
Michael, who works at Monorail Music, told STV News that a friend of the store has a studio in the building and discovered the backdrops the day after the event was cancelled.
Michael told his friend that the backdrops should be “put to good use” and decided the best way to do it was a public auction.
All the proceeds raised from the auction will go to charity Medical Aid for Palestinians.
The auction currently has 14 bids and the current price of the backdrops stands at £140.
It comes as bidding for a cardboard sign signalling the botched Willy Wonka experience in Glasgow being cancelled has raised over £1,000 for a children’s hospital charity.
In a statement, House of Illuminati apologised to customers and said it should have cancelled the event as it was “let down last minute” by suppliers, adding the event “did not take shape as planned”.
