A Glasgow Subway train has been suffered “criminal damage” at the hands of vandals on Halloween.
The British Transport Police confirmed it received reports of vandalism being carried out on a carriage in the city at around 8.50pm on Thursday.
A video circulating on social media appears to show a group dressed in masks and white overalls spray-painting one of the carriages of a subway train after it stops at a station in the city’s Westend.
SPT have confirmed they are aware of the incident and are investigating to find the perpetrators.
An SPT spokesperson said: “SPT takes any act of vandalism on the system very seriously. We are working with British Transport Police who are investigating this incident to find the perpetrators.
“Vandalism of any kind while the train is in service is particularly upsetting for passengers who just want to complete their journey safely without incident.
“Ultimately, these incidents only have a negative impact on our passengers as the train needs to be immediately removed from the system and cleaned before it can be returned to passenger service which takes time.”
The fleet of 17 modern subway trains will replaced the 12 existing ones, which had been on the route for more than 40 years, in February.
A BTP spokesperson said: “We received reports at around 8.50pm yesterday (October 31) of criminal damage to a train carriage in Glasgow.
“Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 771 of October 31.”
