Passengers are being warned of disruption as Glasgow’s Subway is set to close for two days later this month.

No services will operate on Sunday, November 15 or Sunday, November 22, while engineers undertake work across the network.

The service is set to close for testing of new signalling, communication and operational systems.

The closures will also support the continued rollout of platform screen doors, which have already been installed at some stations.

Subway passengers are urged to allow extra time for travel as the testing will coincide with closures on the M8.

Richard Robinson, director of transport operations at Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, said: “The work taking place during these Sunday closures will allow us to carry out critical testing and validation of key systems that support the operation of the modernised Subway.

“Over recent years, substantial work has taken place behind the scenes to upgrade key infrastructure across the network.

“We have now reached the stage where we need to carry out extensive testing to ensure the new signalling and communications systems operate safely, reliably and as intended.

“As we near the end of the modernisation programme, this work will allow us to replicate a wide range of operational scenarios and give our teams confidence that the systems and infrastructure supporting the Subway are performing safely and reliably for our customers.

“We appreciate the patience of our passengers while this work takes place.

“Passenger safety and the smooth operation of the Subway remain our top priorities, and these closures will help ensure both as we complete this important stage of testing.”
