Passengers on Glasgow’s Subway will soon be able to use contactless at ticket gates, it has been announced.
Upgrades will mean passengers will be able to pay to travel on the city’s Clockwork Orange at the gate, without having to queue at the ticket office or at machines.
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) said the new technology will be rolled out as soon as all gates have been updated and all testing has been completed.
The transport provider previously said customers will be able to tap through the Subway entry gates with a debit card, credit card or mobile wallet by the end of 2025.
“We are beginning to get our ticket gates ready to accept contactless payments,” an SPT spokesperson said.
“Paper tickets and SmartCards will still be available, contactless will just be an additional way to pay.
“More information will be available soon on the SPT website and on our social channels.”

The upgrades are part of the current modernisation of the Glasgow Subway system.
SPT said the investment programme has delivered new Smartcard ticketing, a refurbishment of all 15 stations, including both flagship city centre stations, a brand-new signalling and control system, and the arrival of 17 new trains.
“All of this work has happened or continues to take place while we run passenger service every day to limit the inconvenience to the 13 million passengers per year who rely on us to get around the city,” the SPT website said.
