Funding of £150,000 has been secured from SPT to improve the accessibility of Glasgow’s Subway Stations.

The money will be used to enhance pedestrian access and make the public transport network inclusive to all by removing barriers for disabled people as well as those with mobility impairments.

It will also help the work being carried out to integrate bus services, the Subway and wider sustainable travel networks.

The investment supports the delivery of regional and national transport and will help ensure the public transport system is accessible and well-connected.

It comes after plans to increase opening hours on the Glasgow Subway on Fridays and weekends were approved, which will come into effect once the modernisation of the line is complete.

Under the new schedule, trains will be available from 06:30 to 23:30 on Sundays. They will also run for an extra hour on Fridays and Saturdays, closing at 00:30.

From Monday to Thursday, it will continue to run from 06:30 to 23:30. The new operating hours are expected to start some time in 2027.

SPT capital funding has also been secured for 2026/27 to improve bus accessibility across the city.

This includes £150,000 to deliver three fixed bus lane enforcement cameras, strengthening compliance at critical locations and supporting more reliable journey times and improved network performance.

A further £150,000 has been awarded to progress design work for the proposed Southern City Centre Bus Hub at Osborne Street / King Street.

This investment will play a key role in supporting ongoing redevelopment in the area.

A council officer said: “SPT funding in the financial year 2026/27 [outlined in the report] notes that funding has been fixed for three fixed-year bus enforcement cameras.

“We have also secured funding to progress some of the city centre bus hubs and additional improvements to subway stations.

“These measures are intended to improve compliance, reliability, connectivity and inclusive access.”
