A “points failure” on the Glasgow subway system suspended both circles on Monday morning before one station was closed.

Passengers were advised of a delay to the lines opening at around 6.30am due to a points failure at the Subway yard.

Services were unable to run in the early morning with teams working to fix the issue which was resolved after 7am.

A further update from operator SPT confirmed Hillhead station in the city’s West End was closed due to a power failure.

A customer notice on X read: “Apologies all, Hillhead Station is currently closed due to a power failure.

“Nearest station is Kelvinhall.”

Glasgow Subway Travel posted on X at around 6.30am: “Apologies all, there is a delay to the opening of the Subway this morning due to a points failure at the depot.

“We are working to get this fixed and will update when trains can be moved and services are running. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

A further update at 6.53am read: “Apologies all, both Circles are suspended while we work to fix the points failure in the yard.

“We are working to fix and will update once we can get trains moving into the system.

“Apologies for the inconvenience.”
