Silverburn has announced a trial period allowing dog owners to bring their pets for a dose of retail therapy.

A Glasgow shopping centre is to relax rules on pets and welcome dogs for the first time as part of a new trial period.

Silverburn will allow “canine companions” entry to a number of outlets within the mall following a sharp rise in dog ownership across the country.

Four-legged friends will be able to access certain brands within the centre, including clothing store H&M and Krispy Kreme – which recently introduced a ‘pupuccino’ to its menu.

Dog-friendly stores will be recognisable by a special paw print symbol on windows, while waste bag and water stations will be set up throughout the building.

David Pierotti, General Manager of Silverburn, said: “We pride ourselves on being a destination that is inclusive for all, and considering the 10% rise in dog ownership in recent years we wanted to trial opening our doors to everyone in the family, which includes some of the best-behaved dogs out there.

“This new policy allows visitors to shop, eat and relax at Silverburn alongside their canine companion without the anxiety of leaving them behind.

“When asked, over 80% of our customers welcomed the concept so we’re excited to make this addition and will continue to monitor feedback throughout the trial period.”
