A little girl who won a minor role in Batgirl after turning up on set in full costume has been left “heartbroken” after the film was shelved.
Isla Neil, eight, first hit the headlines after dressing up as the DC comics superhero to visit filming in Glasgow.
Images of the schoolgirl hoping catch a glimpse of her hero went viral and attracted attention from both star Leslie Grace and director Adil El Arbi.
Her father, Alastair, has now revealed that the Glasgow schoolgirl was offered a minor role in the movie which saw her play a little girl living in the tunnels of Gotham who is inspired by the titular star.
The proud dad told STV News that he was “almost in tears” watching his little girl perform, clad in a purple super-suit and yellow duck rainboots.
SuppliedA petition has now been launched for studio bosses at Warner Brothers to release the film in the hopes that Isla can have her moment on the big screen.
“She’s heartbroken, you know – she was so excited, she was just dying for every one to see her on screen,” Alastair said.
“At first she was just looking forward to maybe meet Leslie, but when she got in front of the camera – I was stunned.
“I even heard one of the assistant directors saying to her co-worker that ‘she’s a natural…this girl’s going places’.”
STV NewsThe DC film, which was set to star Grace, Michael Keaton, Brendan Fraser and JK Simmons, reportedly cost an estimated £57.6m.
Following poorly received test screenings, Warner Bros decided to cancel the release of the production.
Alastair said it was “absolutely gutting” to have to tell Isla the production had been shelved.
Supplied“She was so disappointed. All she wanted was for her school friends to see the movie, they were all so excited.
“I know the petition won’t do much to change their decision, but I just wanted to do something…something to show that people care about this.
“I am trying to get the movie or footage released in some way…Glasgow and its people deserve to see it.”
