A street in Glasgow city centre has been closed in both directions due to an ongoing building fire.
Glasgow City Council confirmed that Glassford Street has been closed to all traffic between Ingram Street and Trongate due to a blaze at around 6.40pm on Saturday.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent seven fire engines and two high-reach appliances to the Virginia Street area when the alarm was raised at 6.20pm on Saturday.
Pictures from the scene appear to show black smoke coming from the House of Gods building.
Drivers have been advised to avoid the area at this time.
STV NewsA statement from Glasgow City Council read: “Due to a building fire, Glassford Street has been closed to all traffic between Ingram Street and Trongate.
“Road users are advised to avoid this area.”
Homeless Project Scotland said its soup kitchen, which is in the area, has been evacuated as a precaution.
In a post on social media, it said: “Everyone is safe. Emergency services attended.
“For safety reasons, the soup kitchen is now closed until further notice while the situation is assessed.”
Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
