Glasgow City Council have shared the first image of how the proposed ‘River Park’ could look once completed.

A project is currently underway to redesign the city’s waterfront, creating new amenity space in the form of a fully accessible urban park.

The park would feature enhanced green space and a high-quality public realm, further connecting the city along the river edge while replacing quay walls that are no longer fit for purpose.

Outside the A-listed Custom House, a build-out area stretching about 20 metres over the water is to be constructed while the opposite south side of the river at Carlton Place will also receive a makeover, with a new green space created.

The public can ask questions and have their say on the proposals at an event on October 9 at Glasgow City Council chambers.

It is hoped the investment in the riverside will create a “multifunctional and vibrant waterfront destination that will attract visitors and residents alike.”

A full planning application is expected to be submitted by Autumn 2025. If given the green light, construction work for new quall walls and landscaping is anticipated to start in 2027.

More information on the development and the public consultation can be found online.
