A Glasgow restaurant has closed “unexpectedly” leaving a number of workers out of a job, a union has said.
Doppio Malto on George Square announced it would be closing its doors after three years, saying it hoped customers had found a “happy place” at the restaurant.
The restaurant was situated on the site of a previous Italian outlet owned by Jamie Oliver which permanently closed down in 2019.
Unite the Union’s Hospitality branch which represents workers in bars, restaurants, cafes, casinos, tourism and hotels said the closure was “unexpected”.
The union claims a number of workers are now out of job and have urged any affected members to contact them.
Unite Hospitality said on X: “Doppio Malto in Glasgow has closed unexpectedly after three years, leaving scores of workers out of a job.
“If you have been impacted by this please contact us directly for support and advice.”
Announcing the closure on social media, the restaurant said: “Doppio Malto has closed its doors in Glasgow.
“Thank you to everyone that has been a part of our journey and who found Un Posto Felice (happy place) with us over the last three years.”
Doppio Malto has been contacted for comment.
