City streets shut as 30 firefighters tackle fire at recycling centre

Six fire engines, an aerial appliance and specialist resources were sent to the scene in Nuneaton Street near Parkhead in Glasgow.

Firefighters in Glasgow have been tackling a blaze which broke out at a recycling centre in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Around 30 firefighters were sent to the scene in Nuneaton Street after the alarm was raised at around 2.35am on February 8.

Six fire engines, an aerial appliance and specialist resources have been in attendance

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said crews were dealing with a large fire and there were no reports of any injuries.

Glasgow City Council said Nuneaton Street was closed to traffic due to the fire at the NWH Waste Collection/Recycling Site, with reports of heavy smoke in the area.

Part of the Clyde Gateway was also shut.

In an update, the council added that in response to heavy smoke London Road was completely closed to all traffic between Springfield Road and Fielden Street.
