A former nightclub in Glasgow could be converted into nearly 200 student flats as part of a development proposal.

The site at 21-41 Queen Street which was previously home to Archaos nightclub has been earmarked for demolition under plans submitted by Carrick Properties and CAQN Ltd.

Plans include a fourteen-storey building constructed with a 195-bed student accommodation block and a retail unit on the ground floor.

The façade of the existing building would be retained.

Archaos opened in 1995 before closing in 2007 and was a popular spot for clubbers but also played host to a number of bands including Texas and Travis.

A BBC Top of the Pops episode also aired from the club in 1999.

The building, according to the application, has fallen into a “state of disrepair”

It read: “There are signs of structural movement in the front elevation, with several window cills and lintels visibly subsiding.

“There is plant growth in areas where water gathers, including the eaves stringcourses.

“The impermeable paint on the original masonry finish is peeling in places where trapped water has broken through, revealing a crumbling sandstone façade beneath.”

The plans are due to go before Glasgow City Council planners.
