Glasgow murals under Kingston Bridge painted over for filming of The Batman: Part II

Dozens of murals under Glasgow’s Kingston Bridge have been painted over as part of the production for the Batman sequel, just months after they were completed.

The 23 pieces were painted by local, national and international artists in conjunction with Yardworks, a street arts and graffiti programme, in May 2026.

The project was led by SWG3 and funded through Glasgow City Council’s City Centre Mural Fund and Minor Improvements Grants.

Work has been ongoing to cover up the art installations at the Newton Street car park since last week, so the area can be used for filming of The Batman: Part II.

Glasgow City Council confirmed the murals were being covered as part of the film’s production, and the production company will cover the costs of reinstatement.

“SWG3 remain involved, and artists will be undertaking the reinstatement immediately after filming is over”, a spokesperson for the council said.

It comes ahead of road closures and restrictions being put in place across the city over two months, with production crews arriving from August 18.

Glasgow has been used multiple times as the fictional Gotham City, including for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, back in 2012.
