A high-risk sex offender who raped an underage girl when he was a teenager has been jailed for four years.
Saif Khan was 17 years old when he sexually assaulted the victim and exposed himself in the presence of the 15-year-old.
Khan, now 21, went on to rape the girl at a flat in the Govan area of Glasgow.
Khan had previously committed a sex crime when he was aged 12 or 13 when he sexually assaulted a sleeping 12-year-old girl at another address in Glasgow.
A judge told him at the High Court in Edinburgh: “The harm you have caused is likely to be considerable.”
Lady Haldane said that there was no alternative to a custodial sentence given the nature of Khan’s offences.
The judge said she took into account his young age at the time of the offending, particularly with his earlier crime.
She ordered that Khan should be under supervision in the community for a further two years when on licence and can be returned to prison if he breaches the conditions.
Khan denied a series of charges during an earlier trial but was convicted of two sexual assaults and a rape.
The first attack occurred between February 11 and July 26, 2016, at a flat in Govanhill, where Khan sexually assaulted the sleeping 12-year-old.
The second took place on October 16, 2020, where he raped the 15-year-old girl shortly after he turned 17.
The court heard that Khan was assessed to be at a high risk of sexual reoffending.
Defence counsel Allan Macleod said Khan continued to maintain his innocence.
He asked the court to take account of his age and immaturity and said: “People do have the capacity to change over time.”
He said Khan had a good work record and was self-employed as a painter and decorator
Mr Macleod said Khan suffered from anxiety and depression and was in receipt of medication.
Khan was placed on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
