Glasgow Green protests 'pass without violence or disorder', police say

Hundreds gathered at Glasgow Green for an anti-immigration rally and an associated counter-protest, which police say passed peacefully with “no violence, disorder or disruption.“

One man was arrested in connection with an outstanding warrant linked to disorder at a previous protest in the city.

The Pink Ladies organised their event at Glasgow Green, prompting opposing groups, including Stand Up To Racism (SUTR), to arrange a counter protest on Saturday September 12.

Police Scotland say they had a significant operation in place with support from a range of specialist resources.

The two groups were contained in separate areas on the eastern side of the park, both demonstrations separated by the People’s Palace and a heavy police presence.

Chief Superintendent Stevie Dolan said: “We did warn that there would be no tolerance for violence and disorder and that any criminality would get a strong response.

“People have a right to peaceful protest and today’s policing operation was focused on ensuring the safety of the public, preventing crime and disorder, and minimising disruption.

“I would like to thank the public for their patience and for those who positively engaged with the police during the protest.”
