A man from Glasgow has died alongside his colleague following a workplace incident in Northern Ireland.
Joseph Hobbs, 23, and Mark Glover died while working on Ballygowan Road in Crossnacreevy, County Down, on Friday, October 2.
Originally from Glasgow, Joseph moved to Comber, where he is dad to a young son.
Following his death, his parents, Joseph and Lisa McMullen Hobbs, paid tribute to him.
They said: “Sadly, our boy Joseph passed away in a work incident on Friday, along with his work friend Mark.
“This has been devastating for everyone involved and we are so heartbroken as a family, Joseph brought so much love, happiness and lots of laughs to everyone who knew him and was the most amazing dad to his lovely son Axel, our hearts will forever be broken.”
His sister Ella wrote: “Words can’t describe how hard it is to make this post. My brother Joseph sadly passed away on Friday, alongside his work buddy and best friend Mark.
“Joseph made the world such a better place with his contagious laugh and his sassy behaviour.”
A GoFundMe page has been launched to help support both men’s families.
Organised by Craig Lemon, it reads: “There are no words that can truly express the heartbreak we feel as we share the devastating news of the sudden and tragic passing of our dear friends, Mark Glover and Joe Hobbs, following a devastating work-related accident.
“In an instant, two lives were taken far too soon, leaving behind two families who are now facing unimaginable pain and a future without the people they loved so deeply.”
So far, the fundraiser has raised over £24,000.
In a post to social media, Dempsey Funeral Directors said Joseph was a “devoted daddy of Axel, beloved son of JoJo and Lisa and dear brother of Darren and Ella; much loved grandson of Dennis and Sandra McMullan, nephew of Marie and Kylie and cousin to Rui and Rachel.”
His funeral is due to take place in Scotland at a later date.
