Glasgow City Council to sell off former school houses and ex-library

Old schoolhouses are among five properties which are set to be sold by Glasgow City Council.

They include the former schoolhouses for St Francis Primary, in Hutchesontown, and Battlefield Primary as well as an ex-library in Mosspark.

Talks will start with the council’s arms-length company City Property Glasgow (Investments) LLP over off-market deals for the buildings if councillors back the proposal next week.

The five properties are all expected to be leased to Glasgow’s health and social care partnership (HSCP).

On Old Rutherglen Road, the former St Francis Primary schoolhouse is a three-bedroom detached bungalow, with a garden, and is currently empty.

In Battlefield, the ex-schoolhouse at Carmichael Place is a two-bedroom detached house, which was built in 1912. It is also vacant.

A council report adds the Mosspark property, on Arran Drive, is a “1990s built five-bedroom detached bungalow”, which was formerly a public library.

“Currently the property is tenanted with the occupants requiring supported living arrangements,” it adds. The property, which has a garden and driveway, is currently leased to Thenue Housing Association.

A building on Fettes Street in Cranhill is a “late 1990s built five-bedroom detached bungalow… which is currently tenanted with the occupants requiring supported living arrangements”.

That property also has a garden and driveway, and is leased to Thenue Housing Association.

The final property, on Clarence Drive in Hyndland, is also set to be sold. It is a four-bedroom flat on the second floor of a four-storey tenement, and is currently empty.

The council report adds the Fettes Street and Arran Drive homes are “currently leased by Glasgow City Council to Thenue Housing Association who then sub-let to Glasgow’s HSCP to provide supported accommodation”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the proposed disposal shall not alter the existing arrangements with HSCP or their tenants,” it adds.

“Glasgow City Council will renounce the lease to Thenue Housing Association Ltd and City Property Glasgow (Investments) will enter into a lease with HSCP to continue to provide the current services.”

External home report valuations will be sought to assess the value of each property.

Health and social care services in Glasgow are managed through a partnership between Glasgow City Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
