Glasgow City Council is set to make £3 million from the sale of the site of a former primary school.
The location of the former Howford Primary School and schoolhouse on Crookston Road is to be sold to Bellway Homes who plan to build 57 homes on the land.
The site was put up for sale in June 2024, and 14 bids were submitted to the council. The local authority said Bellway Homes’ offer was considered to be the best value.
The school and schoolhouse were declared surplus to the council’s operational requirements in March 2019 and October 2019, respectively.
Both buildings were later subject to emergency demolition following fires, leaving a cleared site.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for Housing, Development and Land Use at Glasgow City Council, said: “The disposal of this site in Crookston is good news for the area and the city: a vacant site will now be given a new and productive use with new and much-needed homes being built there, and a substantial capital receipt for the council will be reinvested into the delivery of public services in Glasgow.”
