City centre road closed after cyclist hit by lorry in crash

A main road in Glasgow city centre has been closed after a cyclist was hit by a lorry in a crash on Friday morning.

The Broomielaw westbound, which runs along the River Clyde, was shut shortly after 10am near the Grosvenor Casino.

Emergency services were called to the scene. The condition of the cyclist is not currently known.

The Broomielaw is completely closed to all traffic between Oswald Street and York Street due to the “serious road traffic accident”, the city’s traffic management said.

“The road is likely to remain closed for some time and emergency services are currently attending the incident,” a council notice said.

“Road users should avoid the area if possible and expect delays in the city centre as traffic diverts.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are currently in attendance following a serious crash on Broomielaw, near the Casino, which police were called to at 10.10am on Friday, January 27, 2023.

“The crash involved a cyclist and a HGV. Emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.”
