A care assistant has been struck off the register after grabbing a vulnerable woman and swinging her around.
Cathy Gorman was working as a care assistant for Holmes Care Group Scotland in Glasgow when the incidents occurred in May 2021.
An investigation by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), found that that the carer grabbed a resident, referred to as AA, by the arm and “swung her around” causing them to fall to her knees on the floor.
The carer also was found to had shouted “go away” and “look at what you have done” to the vulnerable woman.
The watchdog found that the carer’s conduct towards the resident was “aggressive and abusive” and placed her at risk of physical and emotional harm.
The report from SSSC said that Ms Gorman’s actions showed a “serious” disregard for the psychological wellbeing of the resident.
“You then sought to place blame on her for the fall when it was as a result of your physical aggression towards her,” the report stated.
The probe noted that the former carer had shown no “regret and remorse” over the incidents and had not “meaningfully engaged” with the watchdog’s investigation.
On the carer’s removal from the register, the SSSC, said: “The SSSC considers a Removal Order is the most appropriate sanction as it is both necessary and justified in the public interest and to maintain the continuing trust and confidence in the social service profession and the SSSC as the regulator of the profession.”
A spokesperson for Holmes Care Group Scotland Ltd said: “The welfare of the residents who make their home with us is our utmost priority. This historic incident was reported at the time and the employee was dismissed in June 2021.
“Holmes Care Group would like to place on record that this type of behaviour has no place in the homes that we operate”.
