A Glasgow cadet carried out CPR to save the life of a young boy who collapsed at a train station on Saturday.

Jordan Kerr was travelling to his auntie’s house after cadet training with the Glasgow and Lanarkshire Battalion AFC when he heard “screaming” at Drumchapel train station.

The 15-year-old noticed a mum with a young boy who had collapsed on the platform. Jordan couldn’t feel the boy’s pulse when he started CPR, a skill he learned at cadets almost a year ago.

After more than ten minutes, the boy’s pulse had returned and the ambulance arrived.

Jordan told STV News: “I heard shouts for help and there was a young boy collapsed on the floor so I just sprang into action and gave CPR to him.

“After I got a pulse back I was really happy, but at the same time I was scared and shaken up because it was the first time I done CPR on a real person.

“The ambulance team told me that I had done a good job when they arrived.”

Following the incident, Jordan has launched a petition to install a defibrillator at the train station to ensure that members of the pubic have the best chance of survival if they have a cardiac arrest.

So far it has received more than 700 signatures.

The 15-year-old said: “They save lives.

“I think the community would love to have a defibrillator at Drumchapel train station, it would help.

“I also think it would help first aiders save more lives. More people should learn CPR and I recommended joining the army cadets as well.

“It’s a great way to learn new skills, you just learn so much.”

Army Cadets UK have been contacted for comment.
