A Glasgow boat could be turned into an Airbnb if Glasgow City Council approves the plan.

The owners of the barge at Speirs Wharf in the Possilpark area have applied for planning permission to use the residential mooring as a short-term let.

A planning application lodged by Sea Legs Ltd said: “We currently have a widebeam boat, which we own and is moored at Speirs Wharf under Scottish Canals waters.

“Our plan is to use this boat as part of a short-term let for customers via Airbnb or through our own website in the near future.”

Two residents have objected to the bid for the 72 square metre vessel to become a visitor destination raising concerns over noise and other issues.

One objector said: “The change of use on the mooring will remove a residential mooring from an area with a waiting list and so, in essence removing a home from someone.

“There is already an Airbnb on the pontoon. There has been no process to inform residential boats on the proposed pontoon.

“Short holiday lets will bring extra noise to a predominantly residential pontoon.”

Another neighbour said noise could have an impact on the “residential buildings opposite”.

He also voiced concerns about visitors to the holiday let boat using a nearby private car park at Speirs Wharf.

The planning application is being considered.
