Passengers travelling to and from Glasgow Airport are being warned to expect delays amid extended road closures on the M8.
Sections of the motorway will close between Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8 as essential works are carried out by Amey near Kinning Park and Dumbreck.
Closures will also be in place on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15.
Glasgow Airport has warned travellers to and from the hub to expect significant delays and allow extra travel time.
Several bus routes from the airport will be diverted while the work is taking place.
The works concern the Cornwall Street and Kirkwood Street footbridges, which span the motorway between junction 21 at Seaward Street and junction 23 for Dumbreck.
A Glasgow Airport spokesperson said: “Significant delays are expected across the surrounding road network and diversion routes.
“As such, passengers travelling to and from the airport during this time are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.”
Where and when will the closures come into effect?
From 6pm on Saturday, November 7, the M8 eastbound will close between junction 24 at Helen Street and junction 22 at Plantation, along with the eastbound on-slip at Helen Street.
The westbound main and secondary carriageways will also be shut off between these junctions, as well as the westbound secondary on-slip at junction 21.
These closures will remain in place until 1pm on Sunday, November 8, with the M77 being unaffected in both directions throughout the weekend.
The second weekend of works will see all 16 lanes on the M8 close from 6pm on Saturday, November 14 until 1pm on Sunday, November 15.
This will affect eastbound traffic between junctions 24 and 22, and motorists travelling westbound between junction 20 at the Kingston Bridge and junction 24.
Closures will also be in place on the M77 northbound from junction 1, including the on-slip.
Airport passengers planning to travel on the new Citylink 903 service are advised that this route will be unaffected by the M8 closures, but will be impacted by the closure of the Renfrew Bridge.
First Bus says delays are likely on its 500 service to Glasgow Airport, the X8 to Silverburn, and other routes which utilise the motorway, but efforts have been made to minimise disruption and ensure most stops continue to be served.
A Citylink spokesperson said: “The M8 works will not cause our 903 service to divert. However, the recently announced closure of the Renfrew Bridge will require our 903 service between Edinburgh, Blantyre, Glasgow and Glasgow Airport to divert, meaning it will be unable to serve stops at Victoria Park, Scotstoun and Yoker during the bridge closure.
“Our routes between Glasgow and Campbeltown, Oban, and Skye – which also serve the airport – will follow a diversion during the M8 works, but all stops will continue to be served as normal.
“We expect affected services to take longer than usual and would therefore urge customers to allow extra time when planning their journeys during this period.”
A spokesperson for First Bus added: “These closures will affect our Service 500 to Glasgow Airport, Service X8 to the Silverburn retail park and trips on both routes to Buchanan Bus Station.
“Our team has worked carefully to minimise disruption on the diversions we have put in place to ensure we continue to serve most stops, and drivers will be advising customers of three alternatives to use as the bus begins the changed route.
“It is likely there will be delays and we strongly advise customers to plan in advance for trips on these dates.”
