Fire alarms at Glasgow Airport were activated “by accident” on Wednesday morning with emergency barriers coming down in parts of the airport.

Holidaymakers were sealed off from passing through duty free at around 10am after an alarm went off in the terminal.

There was a tannoy announcement telling passengers of an alarm being activated in another area – which was found to have been done “accidentally”.

Videos and images showed barriers coming down between the different sections of the terminal.

It was confirmed the airport was back to full operation after the alarm was raised.

It comes as flights between the UK and Florida have been cancelled as the US braces for Hurricane Milton.

Orlando International Airport said it would cease commercial passenger operations at 8am on Wednesday.

Two flights from Edinburgh to Orlando have been delayed by 23 hours, one on Wednesday and one on Thursday.
