Murdo MacSweenGlasgow Airport has been criticised after it mistakenly used Irish Gaelic in an advertisement for a new bar and restaurant.
An image posted on social media for the airport’s new Caledonia Bar and Restaurant showed the words: “An bhfuil ocras ort?” – an Irish translation of “are you hungry?”.
In Scottish Gaelic, the question should have read “A bheil an t-acras ort?”
Gaelic speaker and owner of Gaelic projects agency Astar, Murdo MacSween, who spotted the error, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Good morning @GLA_Airport, maybe don’t just google your translations. That’s Irish not Scottish Gaelic. Show some respect.
“Hire someone to translate it or even just try @LearnGaelicScot maybe.”
A Glasgow Airport spokesperson said: “The translation error was spotted yesterday morning by our team and quickly removed by the airport partner responsible for the hoarding.”
