Glasgow Airport has updated signage on its new bar and restaurant after mistakenly using the wrong Gaelic.
The airport drew criticism after a sign on the airport’s new Caledonia Bar and Restaurant was seen to show the showed the words “An bhfuil ocras ort?” – an Irish Gaelic translation of “are you hungry?”.
In Scottish Gaelic, the question should have read “A bheil an t-acras ort?”
The mistake was spotted by Gaelic speaker and owner of Gaelic projects agency Astar, Murdo MacSween, who posted a photo of the error on X, formerly known as Twitter, telling airport bosses to “show some respect”.
A Glasgow Airport spokesperson told STV News that the translation error was quickly removed by the airport partner responsible after being spotted.
On Tuesday the airport thanked language learning app Duolingo, which offers a Gaelic course, while sharing a new photo of the sign changed to the correct translation.
