A girl has been hit by a van in a crash near an Ayrshire secondary school.

Emergency services were called to the Sorbie Road area of Ardrossan at around 8.45am on Monday.

Police said they were responding to a report of a crash involving a van and an 11-year-old schoolgirl.

Sorbie Road is closed near Ardrossan Academy and emergency services remain on the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.45am on Monday, November 1, officers were called to the Sorbie Road area of Ardrossan, following a report of a crash involving a van and an 11-year-old girl pedestrian.

Emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.”
