Girl, 10, in life-threatening condition and two women seriously injured after South Lanarkshire crash

A ten-year-old girl has been left in a life-threatening condition, and two women have been seriously injured after a crash in South Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called after reports of a collision involving a Volkswagen Golf on the A721 Carnwath Road, east of the junction with Kersewell Avenue, in Carnwarth at around 5.40pm on Sunday.

The 44-year-old female driver and 72-year-old female front seat passenger were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

The ten-year-old female rear seat passenger was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment of what are described as life-threatening injuries.

The road remained closed until around 2.15am on Monday to allow for enquiries to be carried out.

An investigation is ongoing.

Sergeant Elaine Scott said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and who hasn’t already spoken to officers to contact us.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have dash cam or private CCTV which could assist to get in touch.”
