A gangland killer has admitted running a drug trafficking organisation from prison to fund his partner and daughter’s luxury lifestyle.

Robert “Birdman” O’Hara paid for his family to live in a £635,000 flat in Glasgow’s upmarket Park Circus area while he was behind bars for murder.

He was able to rake in vast sums of illicit money – enough for him to buy a £225,000 Lamborghini.

In 2021, police seized more than £300,000 of high-value watches, jewellery, designer clothes and trainers as well as cash from properties linked to the gang.

O’Hara was serving a life sentence for murder, gun and drugs charges in 2005.

It came after rival Paul McDowall was stabbed to death yards from his home in the city’s Possilpark.

The 25-year-old was attacked by two men with one of them in phone contact with O’Hara while carrying out the fatal assault.

O’Hara appeared at the High Court in Glasgow via video link from HMP Addiewell on Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty – via his KC Donald Findlay – to a charge of directing others to become involved in serious organised crime between September 13, 2018, and May 28, 2021.

O’Hara was given an extra nine-year sentence by judge Lord Harrower.
