A police officer and three men have been injured in a crash in East Dunbartonshire involving a stolen vehicle and an unmarked police car.

All four were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow after the incident at the Canniesburn Toll roundabout in Bearsden on Saturday morning.

The BMW car involved in the crash had been reported as stolen from Eaglesham in East Renfrewshire.

None of those taken to hospital are believed to be seriously injured. The three men involved in the crash have been arrested in connection with the incident.

One line of enquiry being followed by police is that the stolen vehicle was travelling on the wrong side of the road.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.35am on Saturday, 1 July, 2023, we were called to a report of the theft of a car in Gilmour Street, Eaglesham.

“The car was later involved in a crash with an unmarked police vehicle in the Canniesburn Toll area of Bearsden, Glasgow.

“Three men, aged 32, 29 and 20, and a police officer were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.

“The three men have been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

“The roads surrounding the Canniesburn Toll Roundabout remain closed for enquiries to be carried out.”

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
